Bombers look ahead
WITH the Hampden League ladder tighten-ing at the top, Cobden’s Open netballers will be looking to secure their position over the coming fortnight.
The Bombers currently sit second on the ladder but will face third-placed Koroit and the fourth-placed Warrnambool Blues over the next two rounds.
“The next two weeks are certainly going to be tough ones for us but we’re well prepared,” senior coach Sophie Hinkley said.
“The results of those games may well determine the top three finish, even though we still have quite a few rounds remaining.
“Koroit has been unfortunate in terms of player unavailability and injuries so we’re expecting they may have quite a different line up to when we last met in round two.”
While key defender Nadine McNamara will be missed from the Bombers side over the next few rounds, Hinkley is confident the side has the depth to fill the role.
“Jess McGlade played her first game back (in division one) last weekend and really had a great game and she’ll be available for selection this week,” Hinkley said.
“Jess is a naturally gifted athlete who played in our div one premiership side last year, had a baby, missed just nine rounds of netball and is again performing exceptionally well.”
Reflecting on last Saturday’s 39-goal (80-41) victory over the bottom-placed Hamilton Kangaroos, Hinkley said she was happy with how her side consolidated what had been practised at training.
Best for the Bombers last weekend were Emily Finch, Alicia Blain and Nadine McNamara.
Other netball results from Saturday were:
