MORE than 100 community members and alumni attended the Mercy Regional College (MRC) book launch of ‘A Special Spirit’ last Friday night.

Held at the O’Keeffe Campus in Noorat, the event celebrated the work put in by author Lachie Lee, in compiling a record of the college’s 50-year history.

MRC principal Sharon Gillett said she was pleased with the “fantastic” show of support.

“To see so many friends of the college attend the launch was just fantastic,” she said.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to all those who have contributed to the creation of this book; our author Lachie Lee, former principals, board members, staff, students and families, editors, printers and everyone involved in this project.

“Their hard work, passion and dedication has brought our history to life in these pages.”

Ms Gillett said the book captured the “rich history” of the school.

“Let the book remind us that our school's history is a living legacy, and it is up to us to continue writing its next chapters,” she said.

“I look forward to seeing many more alumni and community members at our Jubilee celebrations in November.”

The hardcover book can be purchased from https://shop.mercy.vic.edu.au/ in the 50 Years Celebration tab for $45 (or $55 delivered), or from the college office by phoning 5593 2011.

A range of 50th merchandise including tea towels, wine and roses are also available.

The 50th Jubilee celebrations will continue on November 25, with a day filled with activities at the McAuley Campus in Camperdown and a Jubilee Dinner in the evening at Leura Oval.

Entry to the day activities is free, with dinner tickets $65 per person, or $520 for a table of 8.

The dinner will feature the winners of the inaugural ‘Spirit of Mercy Awards’, as well as the annual Car Raffle Draw and music from ‘The People’s Poets’.

Tickets are available from www.trybooking.com/CHKBB.

RSVP for the free day activities is encouraged at the same link for catering purposes.
