Bookaar in winning form
BOOKAAR continued its winning form with a five wicket defeat of Simpson in round 13 of the Colac-South West premier cricket competition.

The home team batted first at the Simpson Recreation Reserve, all out in the 50th over for 209.
“We had them 5/80 so they did get away from us a bit at the end,” Bookaar captain Lachie Green said.
“We probably threw away an opportunity for what could have been a big win.”
Michael Winzar took 4/62 from 7.4 overs, but it was a return to form from Louis Darcy that impressed Green the most.
“Louis got put back to division two a few weeks back to find his rhythm, and to his credit he’s worked extremely hard at training.
“He was exceptional on Saturday, he was able shape the ball both ways which is something he has added to his game.”
Darcy finished with figures of 2/23 from eight overs.
Bookaar handed a division one debut to teenager Rory Cameron in the win.
Cameron bowled three overs for 15 runs with his off-spin.
“It was awesome to be able to promote Rory to the team.
“He’s only recently taken up bowling off-spin, he changes his pace well and will be a good prospect in the future.”
The Pelicans were made to work hard in the run chase, passing Simpson’s score in the 45th over for the loss of five wickets.
Eddie Lucas and Tim Fitzgerald put on a quickfire 50 run opening partnership before Simpson tightened the batsmen up.
An unbeaten sixth wicket stand between Green and Paddy Hassett saw Bookaar over the line.
Green was not out on 42 from 57 balls, with Hassett unbeaten on 34 from 70.
“They’re (Simpson) a decent side, they bowled and fielded well.
“Paddy had a lot of patience with the bat, he’s got a really good technique, it was good to get him some time at the crease and for him to make the most of it.”
This week Bookaar will host Woorndoo on the Port Campbell turf wicket.
“We organised to play there a while ago to get another game on turf heading into the finals.
“They’ve got some dangerous players, it’s a tight comp, we just need to keep winning.”
In division two, Bookaar had an eight wicket win over Boorcan at Frederick St.
The visitors batted first and were all out for 96 in the 29th over.
Thomas Baker took 4/22 from eight overs, including a hat-trick, with Nathan Moran taking 3/23 from eight overs.
The Pelicans powered to victory in just 17.3 overs, Stephen Fitzgerald making 49 from 38 balls while Andrew Cheeseman finished on 26 not out.
This week the top of the ladder Bookaar take on Pomborneit at Frederick St.
In the under 16s on Sunday, Bookaar had a 73 run loss to Cobden at Cobden.
The home team scored 9/192 batting first from their 35 overs, with Roy Molan taking 2/10 from two overs.
Bookaar replied with 9/119 from 35 overs.
Arlo Herry top scored with 52 retired from 58 balls, with Xander Kent making 29 from 50 balls.
This Sunday the under 16 Pelicans play their final game of the season against Heytesbury-Princetown at Frederick St.
Bookaar’s under 13s had the bye on Monday night, and this Monday the under 13 Pelicans play Boorcan at Boorcan.
In the south west women’s competition, Bookaar registered a 74 run win over Ecklin at Ecklin.
Batting first, Bookaar posted 2/139 from its 20 overs.
Kayla Hooper and Breeana Daffy both reached the 30 run retirement mark, with Erin Hassett 22 not out and Jada Mahony 18 not out at the end.
Ecklin replied with 4/65, Audrey Ringe leading the bowlers with 2/5 from three overs.
Bookaar finish the home and away season on top of the ladder with finals to commence this Wednesday.
