Bookaar women celebrate victory
BOOKAAR Cricket Club is celebrating three recent premiership victories.

After taking out the South West women’s cricket premiership last week, the Pelicans then backed up their efforts with a strong performance in the Colac District competition to claim their fourth premiership in five years.
Playing at Colac’s CMTP Oval on Sunday, the women showed determination and skill against Apollo Bay.
Having won the toss and elected to bowl, the Pelicans restricted Apollo Bay to 5/77 from their 20 overs.
Breeana Daffy was effective with the ball, taking 2/10 from her three overs, while team-mate Erin Hassett finished with figures of 1/10 from four.
In reply, the Pelicans took just 12 overs to reach 1/78, with opener Sophie Walker retiring on 30 (which also earnt her the day’s MVP award) and team-mate Tracey Baker contributing 16.
Audrey Ringe remained unbeaten on 13, alongside Kayla Hooper (four not out).
Ringe, who captained the women’s side and coached the under 17s, said she was extremely proud of all players for their commitment and effort.
“It’s been a great season for us all,” she said.
“To bring home three premierships this year is reward for effort and we all celebrated with our families and supporters back at the clubrooms on Sunday night.”
Ringe said while the majority of the women celebrated two premierships, for four of the senior women’s team members it was a case of three premierships within a week.
“Four of our under 17 premiership players also play in our women’s side so it was a huge week for them,” Ringe said.
“Charlotte Hinds, Breeana Daffy, Arabella McDonald and Kayla Loving have been playing with us (women) all season and are an important part of our side – without them we wouldn’t have a team.”
Ringe believes the future looks bright for the Pelicans, with the majority of this year’s players already keen to return next season.
“At this stage I think only one player from our current under 17 side will be too old for juniors next season and most players I’ve spoken with are already keen to come back,” Ringe said.
“So the future looks bright for women’s cricket and for our club.”
On Sunday, the Pelicans’ under 17 girls enjoyed a thrilling win, recording victory on the final ball of their contest against Apollo Bay to claim the club’s first junior female flag.
Apollo Bay won the toss and elected to bat, making 8/71 from 16 overs.
Bookaar’s Stella Hinds took an impressive 3/8 from two overs while wickets also fell for Breeana Daffy 1/10, Arabella McDonald 1/16 and Charlotte Hinds 1/21.
In reply Bookaar reached 4/72 after 18 overs; with opener Kayla Loving unbeaten on 22 (which included two boundaries).
Shelby Mahony scored 18 from 37 balls while other contributors included Arabella McDonald (11), Charlotte Hinds (5), Breeana Daffy (2) and Stella Hinds (one not out).
