HERE in the South of the country, the weather gods have kept us on our toes yet again.

LOT 2 in the 2026 Boonaroo Angus Bull Sale … Boonaroo Prime Minister V49, calving ease with 141 for 600 day growth - a true curve bender.

After closing the door on 2024 and putting behind us one of the driest years this area had seen, we were all pretty confident that a good Autumn break would kick off a less challenging 2025 for us all.

How wrong we all were, with little or any rain up to late June, the daily chore of supplementary feeding continued to dominate our lives.

Sourcing fodder was becoming virtually impossible and when you were lucky enough to find it, the price continued to sky-rocket from week to week.

Adding to the challenge was the ever-increasing difficulty of finding good quality water for stock.

Then along came the rains in July and from that point on we have been blessed with the perfect season and exceptionally strong beef prices to top it off which has brought a real sense of confidence and excitement about the future of our industry.

With a growth in red meat consumption in our country and around the world over alternate diets and despite the increase in price the future can only look positive.

One thing, the last two seasons have proven, is the incredible genetic capacity that Angus cattle bred for do-ability have to bounce back in the most challenging of environments.

This genetic ability has been highlighted by the 2026 team of Boonaroo Angus sale bulls and weaner heifers, to be presented next month by Shane, Jodie, Tom and Claire Foster.

After being weaned in March, the stud’s sale bulls and their sisters spent the next four months, living on a ration of silage and hay in containment paddocks.

“At that point those young bulls were certainly behind where we normally expect to see them, but once we were in a position where we were able to put them onto grass, we saw an amazing transformation in them, to the point where they are the heaviest and most even group of bulls ever to be offered for sale at Boonaroo,” principal Jodie said.

“Seeing these young bulls and their sisters be able to rebound so well, has been great validation for us in the large investment we make in purchasing what we believe are some of the best Angus bulls in the country.

“On the back of what for us was a record-breaking sale average in 2022, we decided that for the long-term benefit of our clients, we needed to invest in phenotypically perfect outcross genetics with industry leading performance data to maximise the productivity, longevity and profitability of the progeny Boonaroo Angus bulls will produce in our client’s herds.”

Those bulls include Cluden Newry R214 (the outstanding $50,000 Sydgen Enhance son), Lawsons Quantum R652, Te Mania Resolution R970 who was purchased in partnership with Seven Hills Angus from New Zealand and Te Mania Reaves R574, the top priced selling bull for 2022 for $130,000.

2024 and 2025 has seen Boonaroo continue to invest genetics at the forefront of the breed including Te Mania Sithes S797, Te Mania Upwey U1109, Booragul Prime Minister S154, Booragul Momentous S115, Wattletop Momentous Q41 S14, Landfall Lorenzo T1427, Landfall Lorenzo T1459, Landfall Pheasantry T438, Cluden Newry Recharge U273 and the jewel in the crown, 3RL Blueprint, the $40,000 top priced bull out of the 3RL’s 2025 Spring sale.

Blueprint, an embryo imported out of the US, is out of the famous Coleman Donna 9309, said to be one of the most flawless cows in the US, by Craftsman.

“With faultless phenotype and structure, ‘push out of your road’ temperament and ‘bullet proof’ balanced data; to say we are excited about Blueprint’s future impact on our herd and the breed would be an understatement,” Jodie said.

The AI bulls represented in this year’s sale are Landfall Summit S1944 and Pine View Mogul.

Two bulls have outstanding structure, excellent muscling and performance. Mogul’s calves proved to us the NFI (Net feed Intake) ‘feed efficiency’ EBV is very accurate, with the maintenance ration provided, they by far had the greatest weight gains over all the calves in containment.

“Summit’s calves are peas in a pod and were clearly the best and most consistent line of steers in the Angus Sire Benchmarking Programme that we saw in Tullimba Feedlot,” Jodie said.

“All these sires will play an important role in Boonaroo’s quest to breed, softness, deep bodied, feed efficient fast-growing cattle that are quiet, fertile and structurally sound.

“At Boonaroo we continue our focus on increasing the eating quality of our cattle to maximise the value of every kilogram of beef you our clients sell.”

A high percentage of the 2026 sale group of bulls are again curve benders, phenotypically outstanding bulls which offer calving ease, while maintaining pelvic area and without compromising growth or quality.

These Spring drop bulls are more than capable of joining cows from the time of purchase; these bulls can also be comfortably used to join heifers for two seasons, before their physical size becomes an injury risk for themselves and the heifers they are joining, from this point on these bulls are highly suitable for use in your cow herds.

“The sires we use boast excellent hoof shape, good growth, softness, great depth of flank, do-ability and exceptional temperaments,” Jodie said.

Every 2026 sale bull’s feet were photographed and the photos, along with the videos of the bulls, will be available on the AuctionsPlus website.
