Boost for South West Model Engineers
ACCIONA Energía, a prominent developer, owner, and operator of renewable energy projects, has announced the latest instalment of small grants and scholarship funding for the region.
Acciona Energía last week announced the recipients of the 2024 Mortlake South Wind Farm Small Grants and Scholarship Program, with 17 organisations and two university students selected from the local area to receive over $60,000 in funding across a range of initiatives.
The funding included just over $48,000 in direct cash injection to organisations including the Cobden Miniature Railway and South Western Model Engineers, which received $410 towards an equipment purchase.
Aberlea Inc was awarded $4200 to purchase an electrocardiogram (ECG) machine, and Mortlake Recreation Reserve Committee of Management secured $3500 for a fans table project.
Mortlake College received two lots of funding, with $5000 for improvements to the school’s community and school fitness centre and $2500 to support the school’s Structured Literacy English Program.
Purnim Recreation Reserve’s committee also cashed in on $5000 for an electric scoreboard.
Acciona Energía’s benefits programs lead Erin Mulquiny said she was excited to see the unveiling of this year’s small grant projects and events.
She extended heartfelt congratulations to the organisations which secured funding through the 2024 Small Grants and Scholarship Program.
Ms Mulquiny said Acciona Energía was proud to support the deserving recipients who resonate with the company’s commitment to sustainability, community growth, and social wellbeing.
“We are honoured to offer continued support to the local community,” she said.
“Empowering community groups with the funds they need to make positive and sustainable change is so important and we’re glad the Mortlake South Wind Farm has enabled us to do that.”
Music Homestead Incorporated, an organisation focused on raising funds for the mental health charity Let’s Talk, received $2000 to enhance the Music Homestead Festival.
For the past three years Music Homestead has run an annual country music festival, providing locals with an opportunity to come together, enjoy good music, and reduce the stigma around mental health.
Other groups to receive funding were:
East Framlingham Golf Club - $2650;
Mortlake Senior Citizens Club - $2500;
1st Noorat Scouts - $520;
Terang Club Inc - $500;

This marks the sixth consecutive year of the Small Grants and Scholarship Program for the wind farm, resulting in a cumulative benefit of over $250,000 in grants and shared benefits funding since its inception.
The next round of the Mortlake South Wind Farm Small Grants and Scholarship Program will open for applications in January 2025.
