Bowlers dodge the rain

LAST Saturday became a “dodge the rain day” for Mortlake’s bowlers.


Results from the weekend’s pennant round four:

Mortlake 1 Blue (div. 1) def. Terang 1 Blue 68-51 (away).

D Grant def. M Rees 19-14, G Draffen def. A Rees 23-22 and L Johnson def. J Heffernan 26-15.

Mortlake 2 White (div. 2) lost to City 5 Green 56-68 (away).

R Draffen lost to K McMahon, C Baxter lost to G Munro and P Delaney def. B Wescombe.

Mortlake 4 Gold (div. 4) lost to Warrnambool 6 Orange 34-58 (away).

G Kenna lost to M Kelly and D Murray lost to L McCosh.

R Draffen lost to C Wilson 19-24, D McNicoll def. J Murnane 20-16 and S Pierce lost to P Ellis 20-22.

Mortlake 2 Purple (div. 4) def. Port Fairy 5 Black 38-33 (home).

G MacDonald def. R Chapman 18-16 and L O’Shannessy def. J Purcell 20-17.

Midweek pennant selections for round six:

Mortlake 1 Blue (div. 1) have the bye this week.

Mortlake 2 Purple (div. 4) away to Port Fairy 4 Blue.

Last Tuesday also saw Over 60s social pennant round four but no results were available at the time of printing.

Every year Mortlake Bowls Club hosts Mortlake RSL Day and it is this Sunday.

This will be a 1pm start with proceeds from the day going to Mortlake RSL and their efforts to support families in the local community.

The raffles are legendary, having so many chances to win a prize and is one of the biggest in the district.

Members please bring a plate of afternoon tea.
