Bowls pennant begins
THE 2024/25 pennant bowls competition has begun strongly for the Cobden club, securing three wins from five matches.
A number of new players have joined the club this year and have contributed to the winning teams.
There are also quite a few players away and when they return the pressure will be eased for the selectors as it was a difficult week to fill all positions.
Midweek pennant kicked off on Tuesday, October 8.
Division one had a win to start the season off on the right note against Central 1.
Ann Scott, Bazil Hammond, Elaine Telford and Loreign Andres won 23-17, from Johnson, Gray, Johnson and Blake.
Jan Ovens, Trevor Roberts, Bert Strampel and Doreen Coverdale won 28-14 over Chapman, McCarthy, Price and Barrow.
Sue Couch, Denis Delaney, Jill Lynch and Brian Howard lost 17-24, defeated by Price, Gray, Gray and Tesselaar.
They are placed second on the ladder.
Division two struggled and were defeated by Birregurra 1 at Birregurra.
Joy Beaton, Kath Spokes, Ken Lynch and Geoff Ovens lost 18-27 against Battye, Bouchier, Gardiner and Barter.
