Boys shine on netball courts
COBDEN Technical School students have shone on the courts at last month’s Netball Victoria Gala Netball Day for boys.
With 66 teams entered in the competition from across the state, the school was forced to rely on a ballot system to gain entry.
“This event has become very popular and attracts some of the biggest schools from all over Victoria,” sports coordinator Belinda Savage said.
“It’s very exciting to see how popular netball has become among boys, with growing numbers and teams.
“We’re very proud of our small school team who dedicated many hours to training and practice games; always showing dedication to improving, learning new skills and trying new positions.”
Ms Savage also thanked some of the school’s intermediate boys who stepped up to be a part of the senior boys’ team in Melbourne – gaining valuable court time and experience.
“Our small school was often up against schools that would have double the number of students in years 11 and 12 to choose from compared to the total number of students at ours,” she said.
The team played six games throughout the day and enjoyed two wins.
They defeated Cornish College 9-4 and St Pauls Anglican Grammar 13-4 but lost to Melbourne High School 7-9, Beaconhills College 3-6 and Ignatius College 8-9.
The team comprised Brodie Foster, Bradey Fratantaro, Brodey Muller De Vent, Zac Stevens, Jayden Gass, Kayden Daffy, Noah Bignell, Bailey Clarke, Tom Hutton, Bodhi Crole, Felix Nguena Nguena and Adam Jopling.
