Breaking: 2022 Mortlake races cancelled
THE Mortlake Racing Club and Racing Victoria have made the difficult decision to cancel this Saturday’s 2022 Mortlake Races following recent floods and severe weather conditions.

THE Mortlake Racing Club and Racing Victoria have made the difficult decision to cancel this Saturday’s 2022 Mortlake Races following recent floods and severe weather conditions.
Mortlake Racing Club manager Karen Van Kempen said all involved were devastated to cancel the iconic event, having already endured years of COVID-19 disruption.
“The 2022 Mortlake Races have been abandoned due to the amount of rain received in the last three weeks,” she said.
“Due to the condition of car parks and patron facilities having surface water, Racing Victoria, in conjunction with the Mortlake Racing Club, has taken the decision to abandon the event.”
Ms Van Kempen confirmed the 2022 Mortlake Races would not be “postponed.”
The event will not be held until 2023.
“We are obviously really disappointed because pre-sales were excellent, the planning was all in place and we were certainly due to have a wonderful return to racing with predictions of a good crowd in attendance,” she said.
“Unfortunately the weather has had other ideas.
“At the end of the day we have a commitment to provide patrons and participants with a safe environment, and unfortunately we were unable to achieve that this year due to the amount of rain which has fallen.”
