Budding artist’s first solo exhibition
AN EMERGING artist is marking his first solo exhibition at the Camperdown Courthouse’s monthly exhibition, with his paintings to fill the walls for December.

Rex Perkins has been painting for two years and his bright and colourful works feature a variety of animals, birds and historical items.
Mr Perkins said he began painting as art therapy to help cope with mental illness.
“I drifted into doing animals and birds in an illustrative manner – in the way you see in children’s books – but not all my paintings are like that,” he said.
“Some of them are historical paintings – there’s a set of them here that are of Cobb and Co Coaches – and I’ve got a lot I didn’t bring that are of mining. I also like to paint birds.
“I like to have colour in my paintings, I think colour draws people to it.
“I’ve shown at a couple of local shows, but this is my first solo exhibition and I think I’m lucky to have it.
“Everyone in this area who shows here is lucky because a lot of places don’t have areas where you can put your paintings out.”
Mr Perkins said he was excited for this month’s exhibition.
He hopes residents will visit the Courthouse, located at 179 Manifold Street, to view the various Australian and locally made wares on offer.
“Apart from the fact that I want people to come along and see my work, it would also be good if people had a look at what’s for sale,” Mr Perkins said.
“I’m always open to a feedback, which I can then use to either improve my paintings or maybe move into something a bit different.”
