Bulls back on winning list

POMBORNEIT’S division one side has returned to the winners list with a thumping nine-wicket win over Boorcan at MCP Oval.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, facing an attack that bowled tightly and took wickets at regular intervals, finishing all out for 76 in 33.5 overs.

Finn Tolland, Tharaka Sendanayake, Danussika Bandara and Sam Darcy took two wickets each, while Stephen Hill bowled a probing spell with the new ball, taking 1/14 from his six over spell.

The Bulls got the required runs in just 10 overs, featuring a hard hitting 39 from 35 to Tom Darcy and an unbeaten 24 to Dave Murphy.

The division two Bulls batted first against top of the ladder Heytesbury/Princetown at Timboon High School, being bowled out for 164.

Alex Downie made his first half century for Pomborneit with 54 from 76 balls, including seven fours.

Other contributions came from Simon Tolland with 30 and Charlie Voutier with 29.

The Bulls bowlers made the Storm work hard for the total but the home team recorded an eight wicket win, with Dean Tevelein taking two wickets.

The division three Bulls were well beaten by Heytesbury/Princetown at Princetown.

Tayla Reynolds, Jimbo Reynolds and Brady Bernoth took three wickets each in the home team’s innings of 224.

In reply, the visitors managed just 76 with Garry Riches top scoring with 19.

The Pomborneit Gold women finished their season with a 100-run win over Irrewarra at MCP Oval.

Batting first, Gold smashed 2/157 from their 20 overs.

Tayla Reynolds, Jess Moulden and Rachel Dendle all reached the 30 retired mark.

Irrewarra was restricted to 7/57 in reply, with some great catching including a one-handed catch from skipper Samantha Coxon (a feature of the Gold team’s effort).

Jess Moulden took 2/5 from three overs, with single wickets to Samantha Coxon, Rachel Dendle, Ella Sadler and Lucia Clarke.

Junior player Isabella Wain made her senior debut in this game, bowling two very good overs.

Isabella becomes Pomborneit women’s cap 53.

The Gold team will play a qualifying final at MCP Oval on Sunday against Colac.

The Pomborneit Maroon women finished their season with a second win - a 51 run victory over Stoneyford at Pirron Yallock.

Batting first, Maroon made their record score of 3/156.

Janelle Whitehead (31 from 33 balls), skipper Julie Baud (33 from 42) and Emily Norman (31 from 23) all reached the 30 retired mark.

Other contributions came from opener Debra Reynolds (16 from 12 balls) and Clare Dunn (10 not out).

A tight bowling performance from the Maroon ladies kept the home team to 3/105 on a very dry and fast Pirron Yallock oval.

Lily Van Es took two wickets and Emily Norman one.

The under 17 boys became the first ever Pomborneit team to play a match at Alvie on Tuesday night, recording a 115-run win over the home team.

Opener Noah Riches hit the ball cleanly, making 55 from the 30 ball retirement mark including five fours and two sixes.

Ben Whytcross with 31 and Bradey Fratantaro with 10 also reached the retirement mark, with other contributions from Josh Reynolds (21 not out) and George Sadler (17).

The under 17 Bulls took just 14.5 overs to bowl the home team out for 53.

Brady Bernoth and Isaac Cootesmith took two wickets each, and single wickets to Noah Riches, Finn Tolland, Ollie Delaney and Marc Van Es.

The under 17 boys finished the home and away season in second spot with a semi-final match in Colac on Tuesday.

The under 17 girls had a thrilling four-run win at Apollo Bay on Sunday morning.

Batting first, Pomborneit made 6/130 from their 20 overs.

Promoted to open, Isla Nolan made her first score of 30 retired with 31 from 56 balls, while Nellie Sadler also retired on 30.

Apollo Bay put on a great run chase and almost got over the line.

There was some impressive bowling at the start of the innings from Nellie Sadler (2/9 from four overs) and Lucia Clarke at the end (2/9 from three overs) which helped get Pomborneit over the line.

The under 14 boys batted first at Colac Secondary College Oval, putting on 8/144 from their 30 overs.

George Sadler made 30 from his 24 ball retirement mark, Jonty Raven batted well for 23 with other contributions coming from Dermot Conheady (17), Riley Spence (12) and Max Rees (11).

The under 14 Bulls held their nerve as Irrewarra Red made a great fist of the run chase, just falling short on 9/132.

George Sadler took 4/16 from five overs after taking off the wicket-keeping gloves.

Riley Spence bowled a crucial spell of 1/16 from five consecutive overs with other wicket takers being Max Rees, Ollie West, Josh Reynolds and Sam McConachy.

The under 14 boys play their final home and away game tonight against West Warrion at Colac’s Western Oval.

In the under 13 boys, Pomborneit Maroon was well beaten in its semi-final match at Cobden Tech.

Jonty Richardson took two wickets and Bailey Fox one in Cobden’s 3/132.

Hugo Saarikallio top scored with 16 in Maroon’s 55 all out.

Pomborneit Gold lost its consolation final to Simpson at MCP Oval by just two runs.

Max Rahles-Rahbula took two wickets and Alex Huggins one in Simpson’s 4/113.

In Gold’s reply of 3/111 top scorers were Ollie Rahles-Rahbula with 20 retired, Sam Tolland 19 retired, Noah Boyd 15 not out and Alex Huggins 14 not out.

The two Pomborneit under 13 girls teams played each other on Sunday morning.

Pomborneit Maroon scored a 17-run win over Pomborneit Gold.

Charlotte Richardson with 15 and Isla Spokes with 14 were the top scorers in Gold’s 8/97.

Jayde Melano took two wickets for Maroon.

In Maroon’s reply of 4/114, Reagan Webb with eight and Stella Hinds with seven were the top scorers.

Charlotte Richardson took two wickets for Gold.
