Burns birthday set to delight
THE Robert Burns Celtic Festival Committee is inviting residents to enjoy a relaxed, family friendly afternoon at the Camperdown Botanic Gardens to mark Scottish bard Robert Burns’ birthday.

Scheduled for Sunday, January 25 between 4-6pm, the event will see a number of Celtic performances throughout the afternoon.
Festival coordinator Catherine O’Flynn said the annual celebration will be held at the former site of the Robert Burns statue before it was moved to the Corangamite Shire Council offices.
“From around 3.40pm, Dr John Menzies OAM will play the bagpipes, inviting guests to make their way to the performance space,” she said.
“A welcome message will precede the ‘piping in of, and address to the haggis’ – this kilted parade, featuring honoured guests and a sword bearer, is a grand sight and sound.
“While the haggis is prepared for tasting, Geelong Scottish Dance – led by Christine Shields – will dance to a pipe tune.
“Dr Menzies will follow with a word on Robert Burns to set the scene even further.
“Following will be performances by The Twa Bards, Laura Flanagan and Andrew O’Flynn.”

The Robert Burns Celtic Choir will join with the Twa Bards for a sing-along session of songs from the festival.
“A raffle will also be held, so grab a few tickets on the way in,” Mrs O’Flynn said.
“A poem or few will be recited by Andrew O’Flynn who will then assist in the raffle being drawn.
“The afternoon will finish with everyone joining in together for Auld Lang Syne.
“Please save the date and come along.”
Entry is through gold coin donation, with attendees advised to bring their own picnic and chairs to the gardens.
