LAST Saturday saw Country Fire Authority (CFA) crews busy across the district, including reports of four fires around Camperdown.

Saturday, November 16 saw a maximum temperature of 33.7 degrees for the day, with winds of up to 39kmp/h.

CFA District Six Assistant chief fire officer Craig Brittain said the fires were small and quickly extinguished by attending crews.

“There was very minimal extent of fire, and there were no issues in the extinguishment of those fires,” he said.

“One of them in Skibo was caused by a small branch landing on a powerline.”

“Units responded from Bookaar, Weerite, Chocolyn, Noorat and Bostocks Creek.”

“Crews discovered a small grass and scrub fire spanning approximately one acre with hay bales on fire.

“Powercor was called to the scene due to proximity of powerlines.”

The incident was deemed under control at 5.53pm and safe at 7.53pm.

An advice message was issued to the community during the incident due to smoke in the area.

Two grass and scrub fires were reported in the Gnotuk area, with one reported at 3.49pm and the other at around 5.30pm.

Five CFA units from Boorcan, Noorat, Terang and Bostocks Creek attended the first fire, having the fire under control at 4.16pm and safe at 4.47pm.

The second was attended by one Camperdown CFA unit responding.
