Busy start for veteran golfers

CORANGAMITE Veterans’ Golf members have enjoyed a busy start to the year.

Since January 20, players have competed at Birregurra, Peterborough, Colac, Hamilton, Camperdown and Warrnambool.

The main events during that time have been the veterans’ championships, with great results from the rounds played at Colac and Camperdown.

Seventy-six players competed in a stroke event at Camperdown on Tuesday, February 24.

Results:

A grade – winner Keith Baker (Camperdown) 70, runner-up Peter Devine (Colac) 73, third Jeff Costin (Colac) 73 on countback. NAGA Peter Tancred (Colac).

B grade – winner Neil Tribe (Peterborough) 69, runner-up Peter Gubbins (Camperdown) 72, third Mark McKenzie (Timboon) 73. NAGA Tara Stewart (Winchelsea).

C grade – winner Brian Smith (Cobden) 67, runner-up Peter Collhole (Birregurra) 67 on countback, third Bernie Kenna (Terang) 71. NAGA Kerry Clarke (Terang).

Nearest the pins: 2nd Peter Devine, 9th (golden hole) Darryl Neal, 15th Kevin Plozza, 17th Tony Nichols.

The association’s A grade open champion winner was Tom Moran (Camperdown) on gross 160, followed by Jeff Costin (Colac) gross 162.

The best nett score was Brian Smith (Cobden) on 138.

The B grade champion was Neil Tribe (Peterborough) gross 174, with Ian Rochfort (Port Fairy) the runner-up on gross 179.

C grade champion was East Framlingham’s Bruce Knee on gross 184, followed by Richard Narick (Camperdown) gross 185.
