Residents are probably familiar with the butter container on display at the Pioneer Park, but Progressing Cobden now has the opportunity to acquire a second shipping container for a proposed new monument.

The question has been raised as to where to place the monument with the intention of pulling more tourism into Curdie Street to support local businesses.

Progressing Cobden are currently in Stage One of this project and are reaching out to the community to ask where the best place for this tourist attraction would be.

Progressing Cobden president Misty Angus said the committee was excited to be exploring new ways to celebrate Cobden’s dairy heritage and enhance its appeal as a visitor destination.

“Stage One of this initiative would see the container installed in a prominent location within the town centre, complementing the existing container at the Pioneer Park,” she said.

“The aim is to create a distinctive, recognisable feature that encourages foot traffic, supports local businesses and sparks interest in Cobden’s story.

“This concept forms part of broader discussions around strengthening Cobden’s identity and promoting tourism in creative, locally grounded ways.”

Progressing Cobden reached out to local business owners to receive their input and also posted a poll to social media to garner community interest in the project.

“Following a recent review by Progressing Cobden – which offered brilliant feedback – it was clear the community values opportunities to be more involved in shaping local projects,” Mrs Angus said.

“The response to our current poll has been fantastic, with a range of thoughtful ideas and constructive feedback already coming through.

“No final decisions have been made and we’re continuing to welcome community input to help guide the next steps.

“Residents, traders and visitors are invited to share their thoughts via our Facebook poll or by filling out a paper feedback form available at the Cobden Visitor Information Centre.

“Together we’re working to grow tourism and create a stronger future for Cobden.”
