C’down Courthouse celebrates volunteers

RESIDENTS who might be interested in volunteering at the Courthouse Camperdown are being invited to a special afternoon tea this weekend.

The Courthouse Camperdown Committee have organised an afternoon tea for current and prospective volunteers at the Killara Centre, which will be held on Saturday, June 1 (tomorrow).

Courthouse Camperdown president Alison Byrne said the afternoon tea had multiple objectives.

“One is to thank our volunteers who are currently volunteering for us, and to give people that might be interested in volunteering a bit of a look at the Courthouse to hear about what we’re doing,” she said.

“The committee just really wanted to recognise our volunteers.

“The fact that they give up their time, and they’re so valued at the Courthouse by the committee. We’re all volunteers as well.

“Just wanted to say thank you, put on an afternoon tea for them.”

The afternoon tea will begin at 3.30pm and includes guest speaker Mark Cuthell from the Port Campbell Tourist Information Centre speaking about the five top tourism spots in the Corangamite Shire.

Ms Byrne said the speech aims to provide current and prospective volunteers additional information to give tourists on places to visit in the shire.

“Our volunteers as ambassadors in a tourist information centre are just really interested in educating themselves about what’s available in the shire, so we though inviting Mark Cuthell along to share some of his knowledge,” she said.

“He’s so involved in the Port Campbell Tourist Information Centre, that he’d be able to share some pointers for our ambassadors to learn from.”

Ms Byrne said she hopes some new volunteers will sign up to volunteer at the Courthouse.

“It’s coming into the season when people leave the south and head north in their caravans, so we run a bit short on our volunteers,” she said.

“Just trying to build that so that we’ve got the doors open seven days a week.

“I think our volunteers, they really enjoy the role.

“The feedback that I’ve been getting is that they love coming in for their shift, talking to different people that are travelling through, or even our locals popping in to either look at the art display or pick up a gift.”

Interested residents and current volunteers are encouraged to RSVP by emailing courthousecamperdown@gmail.com, or by calling Ms Byrne on 0488 254 007 for catering purposes.
