TALENTED teen Indi Cameron made her open netball debut for Camperdown last weekend.
Playing in front of a home crowd against Portland on Saturday, Cameron earned the praise of senior coach Leah Sinnott for her on-court performance.
“We were all excited to see Indi take to the court for her first quarter of open netball on the weekend,” Sinnott said.
“She played in wing attack and fitted in nicely; she did a great job for us.”
And to make the day even sweeter for Cameron, the Magpies took the four points with a creditable 64-44 goal victory.
“It was a tough, physical contest because that’s how Portland likes to play but I was proud of how the girls performed,” Sinnott said.
“It took us a little while to settle but the whole team put in a solid four quarter performance which was pleasing.”
Krystal Baker and Mary Place earned the praise of their coach following a strong, consistent performance in the goal circle, as did Lily Eldridge who had “another outstanding game.”
Eldridge, Chelsea Baker and Krystal Baker were all named best for the Magpies on Saturday.
Camperdown’s division one team fought hard but was defeated 27-46 (Olivia Maskell and Maggie Conheady named best for the Pies) while division two also lost, going down 23-34 (Maggie Manson, Emma Giblett and Ava Nolan best on court).
In division three, Portland took the honours with a 26-16 goal victory. Maddison McInnes, Airlee Cole and Rachael Giblett were named best for the Pies.
In the juniors, the Magpies won the 17 and under match 54-17 (best players Sophie Conheady and Ruby Conheady) while the 15 and under Pies won 42-13 (Indiana Cameron and Isobel Sinnott named best on court).
Tomorrow the Pies will head to Port Fairy to take on the Seagulls.
