Division one hosted its cross-town rival Camperdown Golf with both teams coming off a loss from the previous week, searching to make amends for their defeats.
Camperdown Golf proved to be the better side of the day, leading by three shots at a tea break to eventually win the day by 13 shots.
The rink of Darren Coverdale, Barry Atchison, Ludwig Gungle, and Ian Henderson played Glenn Winsell’s rink show after 15 ends led our boys 17-11.
Darren’s rink then scored 8 of the remaining 10 ends to win 23-20.
Luke Wright, Leonard Searle, Harry Van Someren and Ron Simcox had a tough battle against Craig Skene’s combine.
They were level four times during the contest, but in the dying ends of the game the Camperdown team picked up 5 shots to prevail 27-26.
Ronald Cameron, Neville Salmon, Kelvin Rundle and David Wilson played Kevin Conheady and his team. They were down two shots by the tea break, but had to play with only three bowlers with David Wilson taking ill.
The rink then dug deep to regain the lead, holding on until the final ends where Golf eventually ran over them to win 16-22.
Matthew Brewer, Donna Van Someren, Vicki Brebner and Les Pearson came up against and in-form Paul Richards rink to go down 13-24.
Division 3 hosted cross-country rivals Cobden and came away with a convincing 27 shot victory.
The team of Ronald Absolom, Bert Sloejtes, Nicholas Saligari and Gordon Weller came up against Cobden’s Richard McVilly, going down 10-23.
Stan Adeney, Graeme Chamberlain, Brent Noonan, and Les Dorman had a close game against Bert Strampel’s team, picking up 15 shots during the final five ends to prevail 23-20.
The rink of David Coverdale, Tom Hose, Pam Aitchison, and Ray Bourke had a great win over David Staggered’s rink 36-12.
Paul Brebner, Gerard Broderick, Barney Dickson and Max Rippon played Trevor Roberts and co, prevailing 27-14.
And down in division 5, our team faced off against Colac City.
Despite being a player short, the team of Pip Robertson, Donna Watts, and Caroline Strampel had a good battle against James De Graff eventually succumbing with a very respectable score of 14-20.
Tom Vermaas, Gerard Noonan, Deborah Noonan and Judy Borthwick had an excellent day, soundly defeating City’s Donald Spalding 36-11.
The overall score saw a 19-shot victory to Camperdown 50-31.
In other news, last Sunday at Colac saw the conclusion of the champion of champions.
In the semi-final Camperdown’s Luke Wright played Cressy’s John Nelson and had a great game against a veteran bowler but John proved to be too good, going on to win 25-21.
The other semi-final saw Camperdown Golf’s David Bateman play Ian Varcoe from Apollo Bay in a nail-biting finish with Ian prevailing 25-24.
