Camperdown College twilight spooky fair success

Parents, friends and teachers all got into the spirit of dressing spooky for the evening.

A HAUNTED house, dunking machine, dress-ups, food stalls and a giant inflatable course made for a successful Camperdown College twilight fair last Friday.

The wet and colder weather helped set the scene for the fair’s ‘Spooky Friday’ theme, with a Fancy Dress competition seeing plenty of show goers dressing up for the occasion.

Parents and Friends committee president Sheree Horspole said the committee along with the school were delighted with both the turnout and the success of the event.

“Considering the weather, we were really lucky with the turnout,”she said.

“I can’t give a figure on how many were there but we sold 120 pre-sold wristbands before we started and everyone showed up.

“It was a good success. We’re sort of in the process of taking out costings and earnings but we’re probably up on other fetes.

“So it was definitely successful money-wise.”

The night’s events included plenty for everyone, with raffles, food stalls and rides keeping young and old entertained.

Mrs Horspole said the food stalls had a roaring trade, as did the classroom stalls which were organised by the school children.

She said plenty of other activities such as a three by three metre inflatable obstacle course also kept them busy.

“The highlight was the kids did a Haunted House,” she said.

“The Year 11 VCAL class did that and the kids loved it.

“The dunking machine was also a hit. All the teachers volunteered to go in and brave it.

“It was a great effort they still got in considering the weather.”

Mrs Horspole said the venue also added to the atmosphere, with the close proximity of activities and stalls.

It was the second time the school has held their biennial fair at the junior campus, which she said had been a great change, particularly for the students.

“The move from the senior campus to the junior campus has definitely been for the better,” she said.

“All the kids are involved in the decorations, the decorations put up on the night the kids did in art sessions with art teacher Dale Smith.

“She had a lot of input in art classes of the things the kids were preparing for the fete, while the kids also had input into what went into their teachers’ stalls.”

Mrs Horspole thanked all involved with the organising and running of the school’s fair, adding it was a team effort to make it the successit was.
