Camperdown Magpies lock in 2021 leaders
CAMPERDOWN has locked in its 2021 senior coaches following the cancellation of this year’s Hampden Football Netball League season.

CAMPERDOWN has locked in its 2021 senior coaches following the cancellation of this year’s Hampden Football Netball League season.
The Magpies announced this week Neville Swayn and Brooke Richardson would once again lead the club’s senior football and open netball teams.
Camperdown president Kevin Russell said the club was pleased to announce the reappointments of Swayn and Richardson.
Both coaches were set to lead their respective teams for a second year in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic saw seasons cancelled.
“As we all know with what’s happened there was no judgement on this year but we were happy with the job they had both done in 2019 and we couldn’t see any reason they shouldn’t keep going,” Russell said.
He said the power of work the pair had done in the lead-up to the season had the club optimistic about what may have lied ahead.
“I think they did a really good job,” Russell said.
“All through the pre-season everything was going to plan and all the work they did had it looking like we would have success both on the field and on the court but things didn’t turn out unfortunately.
“We’re definitely confident they can take us in the right direction next year.”
Swayn coached the footballers to five victories and a seventh place finish in his first season at the helm.
He said he was excited to recommit for a third year at the helm.
“With the disappointment of not playing this year I was really keen to go again,” Swayn said.
“With all the work we did over the summer and the list we had put together I was keen to see how it all looked.
“I want to develop the group again and see if I can take them further forward next year.”
Swayn said he experienced a combination of frustration and disappointment as the season was first delayed and then ultimately cancelled.
But the non-playing mentor has used his time wisely to start preparations for 2021, with the club hoping to lock in its playing group in the coming weeks.
