PLAYERS and spectators will now be much safer at Camperdown’s Leura Oval following the completion of a $370,000 lighting upgrade.

Despite football and netball being placed on hold this season the lights were unveiled earlier this week by Camperdown Football Netball Club (CFNC) president Kevin Russell.

He was joined by representatives from Corangamite Shire, Cobden and Camperdown Community Bank, the junior football netball club, Camperdown Auskick and local tradesmen Murray Lucas and David Young to showcase the finished project.

Mr Russell was “thrilled” with the upgrades and said they would significantly improve player and spectator safety at the ground.

“The lights don’t just light up here and there (like they used to), they light up the whole oval and the netball courts,” he said.

“It will be safer for everyone utilising the oval and it won’t only benefit the football and netball club but other user groups at some stage too.

“It’s going to benefit the whole community.”

Mr Russell said the upgrades could not have been made possible without the support of the Corangamite Shire and Cobden and Camperdown Community Bank.

Now complete: The installation of the lights at the Leura Oval began earlier this year.
