Captains for 2026

THE Timboon P-12 school captains for 2026 have been decided after a thorough selection process, with two vice captains and one school captain taking the helm next year instead of the usual one of each.

Holly Delaney will be the school captain next year, flanked by vice captains Noah Clark and Evie Gordon.

While usually there is only one vice-captain, the school made an exception to give all three students the chance to make a difference in their school community.

“It felt good that all three of us got a role instead of one of us just missing out,” Noah said.

“There was a thing that went out to everyone in our year level and anyone could nominate themselves to go for captain.

“We had to submit a letter to the teachers then have an interview with the teachers.

“They asked what we were going to do for the school and then we had the speech to the whole school and then students and teachers voted on it from there.”

Noah said he originally never imagined himself as school captain until the opportunity presented itself, and he wanted to bring an inclusion day to the school to encourage belonging.

“When I came to Timboon P-12 school in Year Seven, I didn’t really know anyone, so I didn’t really see myself going into this role when I first started here,” he said.

“Now I’ve been here a bit longer it’s made me more comfortable to do it.

“I was planning an inclusion day, such as bringing different foods on different days to the school for us to experience different cultures.

“I wanted us to have a day where everyone can try different cultures on a day during school.”

Evie, the second vice-captain, said she wanted to stay true to herself throughout the whole application process.

“When I was applying, I wanted to make it sound like me,” she said.

“I just put what I’ve experienced and the roles I’ve had in the past – I didn’t want it to sound like AI.

“I didn’t want it to seem so serious, I wanted the students to see me as one of them when they heard my speech.

“I didn’t have any specific ideas of what I’d bring to the school as a captain.

“One person’s opinion could be completely different to someone else’s.”

Evie said she wanted to listen to everyone’s individual voices in her role.

“I felt like if someone wanted to do a rubbish pick up day, that could be not what someone else wants or thinks the school needs,” she said.

“I thought asking around for people’s opinions and getting different ideas instead of just what I think would let people see all their ideas are important.”

As school captain, Holly said she wanted all students at Timboon P-12 to feel safe and supported.

“I just want to make everyone feel comfortable, so they can feel like school is a place where they can have someone to talk to,” she said.

“Even if it’s just one person, whether that’s a teacher or a student, just someone that makes them feel comfortable.

“I’m going to implement a rewards system.

“There are a lot of good students at school and they don’t really get rewarded for it.

“I thought maybe towards the end of the year if a student’s been good for a certain amount of time, at the end of the year, we could take those good students to the movies or celebrate them in some way.”

Timboon P-12 school Year Seven-12 assistant principal Sofia Aleem said she was proud of the captains for stepping up and was looking forward to seeing the outcomes of their leadership.

“One of the things Holly said quite early on when I first started here is here at Timboon we all know each other really well,” she said.

“We work together to make improvements, to drive things to make them happen.

“Even recently, with the Year 11 celebration day, Holly has already taken charge of organising what they’re going to do for that.

“They’re the sort of things they drive together as a cohort and they just need some leadership around what that looks like.

“I’m really pleased with the way we’ve structured the captains and the outcome.”

Ms Aleem said each student would bring a unique perspective to the school to drive change.

“They all had different priorities they wanted to drive and we want to build that culture around the school where it is positive and there is a sense of belonging,” she said.

“With Noah’s idea for inclusivity, that brings an awareness that we currently don’t have.

“With Holly, she talked about making the school clean, safe, and creating a sense of belonging.

“Evie had something similar with wanting students to get onboard with house events, which builds school culture.

“They’ve all got influence amongst their peers and that’s positive and makes a difference.”
