Car destroys crossing
WHEN Camperdown residents wandered the streets last Friday morning, they may have noticed something a bit off at one of the Manifold Street crossings.
The crossing, located in front of Showcase Jewellers in the centre of the road, was damaged when a car went through it in the early hours of Friday morning.
Debris was cleaned up by attending police officers, including what appeared to be the car’s front bumper, one of the ‘Keep Left’ signs and the rails on either side of the crossing.
Leading Senior Constable Lachie Barr said the car collided with the crossing at around 3am that morning.
“The car has then travelled approximately three kilometres west on the Princes Highway towards Warrnambool,” he said.
“It stopped, and police intercepted the driver.
“Inquiries are pending on the cause of the accident.
“The driver has not been interviewed at this stage.”
Repairs have since been conducted to restore the ‘Keep Left’ signage at the crossing.
