Caravan completely destroyed on the Princes Highway
A CARAVAN was ripped apart and its contents strewn over the roadside after an oncoming vehicle veered over the centre white lines on Tuesday morning.
A CARAVAN was ripped apart and its contents strewn over the roadside after an oncoming vehicle veered over the centre white lines on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred about five kilometres east of Camperdown on the Princes Highway at about 9.45am.
Leading Senior Constable Andy Gottliebsen said a Nissan Patrol towing a caravan was travelling east when the caravan was clipped by a black Hyundai i30 travelling west.
“It appears the Hyundai has veered across the white lines – it’s missed the Nissan patrol, but clipped the caravan,” he said.
“The impact has ripped the caravan apart and its contents were scattered across the roadside over an area of about 300 metres.”
The Hyundai spun around from the impact and came to rest facing the opposite direction.
The vehicle’s sole occupant, a 56 year-old man from Western Australia, was conveyed from the scene in an ambulance.
Ldg Snr Const Gottliebsen said the man sustained minor injuries and was conveyed to hospital as a precautionary measure.
“The couple towing the caravan, both aged in their 60s from Melbourne, were uninjured but shaken by the incident,” he said.
Highway traffic was reduced to one lane until the Hyundai and caravan were towed from the scene and local CFA volunteers swept the road of debris.
