A festive anniversary: Residents are invited to celebrate 75 years of Camperdown’s annual Carols by Candlelight event next Sunday.

It will be the sixth time the event has been hosted by the Camperdown Theatre Company (CTC) alongside the Lakes and Craters Band, and the community event will once again be free to attend, with non-perishable food or cash donations for the Camperdown Food Bank to be accepted in the foyer.

Carols organiser Toby McKenzie said he is looking forward to celebrating the 75th anniversary of the event.

“We are very keen to share the Christmas spirit with everyone once more,” he said.

“It is very significant for an event to last this long, and we are pulling out all the stops to host a fitting celebration of this achievement.

“Some people may not know that a large portion of the music is custom arranged specifically for this event, so most of the choir singing and many of the feature performances you won’t hear anywhere else.

“Add a terrific lighting show and a community atmosphere and it is a fantastic family night out.

“It will be a great weekend overall, with ‘Celebrate Christmas in Camperdown’ and ‘Light Up Camperdown’ happening down the street as well.”

Over 60 local performers will be involved on the night, including The Lakes and Craters Band, Carols by Candlelight Choir, Mick Saunders, Natalie Atkinson, Demby McKenzie, Toby McKenzie, Louise Rothman, Lucy Keough, Eileen McKenzie, Madidi McKenzie, Pertobe Rockers, Laura Flanagan, Jammin’ Studio, Community House Choir, and a special visitor.

Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.

Battery candles will be available for $2, glow wands for $1 and a canteen will be open.

CTC is searching for past photos of the carols event to display on the night and anyone who can help is asked to email publicityctc@gmail.com or call into Laffs at 163 Manifold Street, Camperdown.

As part of the weekend festivities, CTC will also host a free screening of ‘Santa Clause 2’ on Friday, December 6 starting at 6pm at the Theatre Royal, with a canteen also running on the night.
