Castle Carey upgrades underway

A THREE-kilometre rehabilitation upgrade of Castle Carey Road will continue as part of a $1.36 million investment.

The works have been progressing under an investment from Moyne Shire Council.

Crews began construction from March 25, and it is hoped the upgrades will be completed by the end of July.

Concerns the project was facing delays had been raised among the community but Moyne Shire Council chief executive officer Mark Eversteyn said works were on track, with weather being the only impact ahead of expected sealing planned for July.

“Works are continuing on site,” he said.

“Council is undertaking the road construction works with in-house crews supplemented by contractors for specialist activities.

“Pavement works are nearing completion with bitumen spray sealing and site clean-up required to complete the works.

“Council is working with the Conservation Regulator on protection of native vegetation along the road, which will not impact the project timeline.

“Whilst the road has been rehabilitated, there has not been any widening of the road or table drain past the existing road formation.”
