Cats defeated on first innings

DAY two of the round 12 Warrnambool Moyne and District Cricket Association match between Mortlake and Noorat Terang saw the Cats unable to get an outright result and thus losing on the first innings.

Resuming on 5/14, a lead of five runs, Mortlake managed to put together a decent second innings score of 220.

The total was driven by Saman Gonawala, who made 116 from 172 balls, hitting 16 fours and a six, his first century for the club.

Gonawala was well supported by Jack Lehmann who made 23 from 50 balls, Kalhan Sineth with 34 from 42 balls and junior player Max Slater who was unbeaten on 21 from 53 balls.

Noorat Terang had 24 overs to bat to chase 212, finishing on 5/60.

Todd Lamont took 3/16 from 11 overs, Craig Britten 1/29 from 12 with the other wicket taken by Taj Podger.

This week Mortlake’s premier team start a two day game against Dennington at Dennington in the 13th and final round of the home and away season.

In the championship division, Nirranda chased down Mortlake’s score of 196 made on the first day.

Resuming at 4/77, Nirranda passed the score six down, finishing at 6/204.

Will Kain led the bowling with 3/38 from 12 overs, Brendan Gherashe took 2/27 from nine with Sonny Podger taking 1/26 from seven.

This week Mortlake’s championship team start a two-day game against Koroit at the DC Farran Oval.

In division three, Mortlake lost to Spring Creek by nine wickets.

Batting first, Mortlake were dismissed for 116, Corey Rounds top scoring with 34 from 32 balls.

Spring Creek passed the score in the 31st over, losing just one wicket.

Liam Schuuring was the wicket taker, finishing with 1/33 from seven overs.

Mortlake has the bye in division three this week.
