Cats end season on a high
LAST Saturday night was a trip down memory lane for members of Mortlake Cricket Club’s 2013-2014 division one premiership side

Following on from the club’s Sponsors Day at Wilsons DC Farran Oval, a 10-year reunion was enjoyed by both past and current players and supporters.
The 2013-14 premiership side comprised Peter Harris, Todd Robertson, James Tarbolton, Tyler Schafer, Kyle McDonald, Kerry Tarbolton, Nathan Jones, Ian Mahncke, Clinton Baker, Todd Lamont, Shane Slater, Josh Barr and Craig Fowler.
According to club president Simon Ritchie, Saturday night’s reunion celebrations topped off what was a special day for the club and its members.
“We had a really good turnout on Saturday night after our sponsors’ day,” he said.
“It was great to see everyone together to celebrate the 2013-14 premiership team and to also acknowledge the president of the time, Greg Howat.
“Greg (Gonzo) was president during a time when the club was struggling a little and he really lifted it and got the club up and going again.
“And ever since then he has continued to contribute, both on and off the field and we really appreciate all his efforts. Up until this year he remained on the committee but he still does a lot of work around the club and always puts his hand up to help out.”
Mortlake’s division one side was at home to Merrivale on Saturday and capped off the home and away season with a win.
“We won all grades on Saturday which was a fitting way to end the season,” Ritchie said.
“And to top it off, Gonzo also played his very first game with his daughter Letitia in division three. They batted together and I believe Gonzo has bragging rights because he finished unbeaten on two and Leticia unfortunately went out for a duck.
“But despite that, Gonzo said it was his proudest moment and something he’ll never forget. He was thrilled he had the chance to play cricket with his daughter.”
