Cats hold fourth

MORTLAKE has retained fourth spot on the Warrnambool Moyne District Premier ladder despite a loss to Russells Creek last weekend.

Defending their first innings total of 10/155 on Saturday, the Cats struggled to contain Creek’s run flow on the DC Farran Oval.

Russells Creek finished the day at 8/244 after 95 overs, with opener Cameron Williams reaching 75 before being dismissed off the bowling of Kalhan Sineth.

Sineth finished the day with figures of 3/49 off 26 overs.

Team-mate Hamish Hobbs was also effective with the ball, taking 2/28 off eight while wickets also fell for Tod Lamont (1/26), Jack Lehmann (1/8) and Taj Podger (1/33).

The Cats will head to Jones Oval this weekend to take on North Warrnambool who will be hunting their first win of the season.

In the Championship division, Mortlake is currently sitting second on the league ladder, just behind top-of-the-table Noorat Terang.

Week one of round eight saw the Cats face Warrnambool at Walter Oval.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat, reaching 10/114 after 50 overs.

Neil Kelly starred with the ball for the Cats, taking 6/33 from 10 overs while Sam Wareham took 2/18 and Cooper Herry 2/15.

Chasing 114 last Saturday, the Cats reached 10/117 after 59 overs before Warrnambool returned to the crease and made 3/77 at stumps.
