Cats in the chase

DENNINGTON has set Mortlake a target of 208 to chase on day two of their round 13 division one premier match in the Warrnambool and Moyne District competition.

Dennington won the toss and elected to bat first in the match at Dennington.

Early wickets to co-captains Craig Britten and Todd Lamont saw the Dogs at 3/20, before steadying with partnerships of 69 for the fourth wicket and 67 for the seventh wicket.

Lamont led the bowlers with 3/63 from 23 overs, while Britten took 2/21 from 12.

Veteran quick Clinton Baker took 2/39 from 15, with spinner Calhan Sinneth taking 2/72 from 27 overs, including seven maidens.

Dennington was all out in the 80th over for 207.

In the championship division, Mortlake will need early wickets on day two of their match against Koroit at the DC Farran Oval.

Batting first, the home team was dismissed in the 68th over for 152.

Brendan Gherashe top scored 44 from 99 balls, with Sonny Podger making 36 from 110 balls.

In reply, before stumps, Koroit had nine overs to bat, smashing 1/62.

Leg-spinner Taj Podger was the sole wicket taker with 1/10.

In division three, Mortlake had the bye in round 14.

This week, in the final round of the home and away season in division three, Mortlake will play Nirranda at the Mortlake College Oval.
