ROUND two of Warrnambool District cricket proved a tough one for Mortlake’s division one side.

Playing at home on Saturday, the Cats struggled against the in-form Russells Creek and went down by 122 runs.

The visitors’ bowlers kept the Cats on their toes, with youngsters Josh Slater (24), Henry Smith (not out on 12) and Jack Lehmann (12) the only batsmen to reach double figures in the side’s final tally of 96.

In reply, Russells Creek finished the day on 7-218.

Best of the bowlers for Mortlake were captain Todd Lamont 2-29 and Lachlan Wareham 2-32.

The Cats will be hoping to bounce back this weekend when they meet North Warrnambool at Bushfield Rec Reserve.
