Caution urged after head-on collision

A TWO vehicle collision which saw six people transported to hospital on Easter Monday has seen renewed calls for caution on south west roads.

The incident occurred on New Irrewillipe Road around the intersection with Speedway Road, Jancourt East.

Act Sgt Jake Andrews from the Colac police station said the incident was believed to have occurred due to a vehicle travelling on to the wrong side of the road.

“At 2.55pm on Monday we were alerted to a two-vehicle collision on New Irrewillipe Road,” he said.

“We believe a white sedan with five passengers travelling towards the 12 Apostles has veered on to the wrong side of the road,” he said.

“A white sedan has then struck a blue ute towing a caravan.

“Those travelling in the blue ute were returning from Port Campbell.

“Anyone with dash cam or CCTV footage is urged to get in touch with the Colac police highway patrol.”

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said five people had been conveyed to hospital in the collision, with all in a stable condition.

“Ambulance Victoria responded to reports of a collision in Jancourt East around 2.50pm on Monday, April 21,” the spokesperson said.

“Five people have been transported by road to Geelong University Hospital.

“One person has been transported to Colac Hospital.”

Act Sgt Andrews called on drivers to be vigilant on roads.

“Please take care over the holiday period,” he said.
