C’Down CFA toasts two members

CAMPERDOWN Country Fire Authority (CFA) member Paul Brebner was honoured with the ‘Fireperson of the Year’ award at the brigade’s annual presentation night last Friday.

A long-term member of the brigade, Mr Brebner was noted being a member of the brigade for more than 48 years.

He received life membership in 2012.

The Fireperson of the Year award is awarded for a combination of endeavours by a member around the fire station during a fire/incident turnout, brigade administration, brigade promotion, communication and training.

CFA Camperdown communications officer Bernie Sinnott said Murray Lucas was announced as the brigade’s 17th Life Member.

“Murray joined the bridge on July 17, 1986 and has been a valuable member of the brigade during his period of service – not only on the fire front, but ensuring brigade members camaraderie extended outside fire fighting activities,” he said.

“He was a valuable member of the inaugural CFA Dunc’s basketball side and is a ‘Hall of Famer’ of the basketball hierarchy.

“Congratulations Murray on your life membership and thankyou on behalf of your fellow firefighters and the citizens of the Camperdown and surrounding districts for your 35 years of voluntary service.”

The Camperdown brigade was establish in late 1894.

A series of long-term brigade members also had their years of service commended with brigade service awards including:

• Marty Howells – 15 years;

• Scott Ball – 35 years;

• Chris Winsall – 40 years; and

• Michael Brebner – 45 years.
