Celebrating a milestone
COFFEE with the Girls owner Sharyn Mitting celebrated a special milestone at the Mortlake Markets over the weekend.
Coffee with the Girls reached a milestone 10 years of operations, with the Mortlake Markets having been one of the original sites of retail.
The business was built on the simple concept of selling coffee, tea, hot chocolate and treats at events across the south west.
The milestone was officially reached at the Mortlake Market in May, but bitter weather saw the cancellation of the event.
However, the final market for the season on Monday was the perfect place to recognise the milestone as the Mortlake Markets have played a role in helping to facilitate the early success of the business.
Mrs Mitting said she had fond memories of travelling to Mortlake after launching Coffee with the Girls.
“We bought a trailer with a coffee machine that would work on it,” she said.
“We didn’t really have any leads on where to go but then the Mortlake Markets popped up.
“It was so easy to park, in a great little spot for passing traffic and the locals seemed to love it.
“It’s a great position for the van but we love the people.
“They’ve been so supportive.”
The business has grown from strength to strength over the years, becoming a recognisable figure among the landscape of events at shows, markets, fetes and sporting events.
What started as a humble venture has grown into a thriving family business with four vans operating across the region.
Despite the growth, Mrs Mitting said the Mortlake Markets have always remained a reliable site for operations.
“I believe we’ll be around the markets for another 10 years,” she said.
“We’ve grown to get several more mobile vehicles; the footy clubs have been very supportive and we’re always travelling around to events.
“It is completely run with my grown daughters now, so it’s become a real family business.”
Mrs Mitting said it has not always been easy going, but the Mortlake Markets have always been a reliable spot – even during the toughest of times.
“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic we got a special permit to be able to trade within a couple of places within the shire,” she said.
“The carpark at Market Square was one of them because there could be social distancing.
“The community were very supportive and we had some regularly who were always keen to come along and pick up some stuff.”
