Celebrating cultural harmony
A CAMPERDOWN business is gearing up to celebrate the multicultural society of Australia through a special Harmony Day event.
Vine and Velvet will open from 5pm on Saturday, March 21 (tomorrow) with a special focus on Nepalese food and culture.
Owners Rishikesh Neupane and Sital Bhusal Neupane said the idea came from the community, who expressed a desire to taste something new in the town.
“We thought ‘why not Harmony Day? It would be a good day to introduce Nepalese food and culture with the theme of harmony and multiculturalism’,” Sital said.
“There will be different Nepalese foods and a cultural dance, and people who come in can learn how to do the dance from the staff as well.
“We want them to know more about a different culture. Australia is a multicultural country, so we’re hoping people will learn more about the Nepalese culture.
“We owned the Wheatsheaf Hotel in Terang, and when we came down here we realised the town was missing a multicultural restaurant.
“There are pubs to eat at, but no fine dining restaurant here – we realised if we opened up here then people could get good quality and a variety of food.”
Ms Bhusal Neupane said the community had welcomed Vine and Velvet with open arms, giving positive feedback about the food and the design of the interior during their first few months open.
“We are thankful for the community and the people who support us,” she said.
“We would like to offer people to come along and share their ideas and views.
“If they want to participate, we’ll more than welcome them.
“We want to bring all cultures together and celebrate each other and harmony.”
