Celebrating harmony
MORTLAKE College students united behind one colour in a celebration of the cohort’s connection.

The students dressed up in all orange last Friday to celebrate Harmony Day.
The day, which this year fell on March 21, celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity – providing an opportunity for schools to celebrate inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
Mortlake College acting principal Anne De Manser said the occasion was one students and staff celebrate each year.
“It’s something which has become a tradition every year to celebrate Harmony Day,” she said.
“It is about being inclusive to all people – not just race but every identifying feature you can think of.
“Our students don’t see colour, which is something one of our students had said to me the other day.
“We have an increasing diversity of students from different places who embrace this idea fully – whenever we do something, there’s a well-supported community feel at the school.”
There was no shortage of students accessorising their outfits to heighten the vibrancy on display, which Mrs De Manser said was quite common for the school which has long embraced the importance of performing arts.
“We like a good dress up,” she said.
“I think it is part of our performing arts culture.
“We also have a lot of costumes to choose from as well.”
