Last Friday the members united to host a dinner for the town’s older residents to ensure everyone could enjoy a meal with others for Christmas.

Mortlake Lions Club president Heather Rowe said the annual tradition had once again been well received.

“We’re putting it on for the elderly citizens of the town to come and have a Christmas meal,” she said.

“We’re serving turkey, roast pumpkin, potato, carrots and peas with gravy.

“Then we have plum pudding, custard and cream.

“We have cups of tea with Christmas cake too.”

Mrs Rowe said more than 50 people were in attendance during the night.

“It’s something we do every year, and it’s always really good,” she said.

“Every year it is great.

“It’s a free night for people, but we do have a raffle to offset some of the costs.”

Mrs Rowe thanked members of the Mortlake Lions Club for their dedicated efforts, and those in attendance for their good company and friendship.

“It gives everyone a chance to get together and connect,” she said.

“The holidays can be lonely sometimes so it is good for people to enjoy a free meal with music going and good company.

“We try to make it a good night for everyone.”
