Centuries to Rosolin and Hutt

COBDEN scored a crucial one wicket win over Irrewarra in the round 13 Colac-South West premier cricket match on Saturday.

Knights skipper Johno Benallack won the toss and sent the home team into bat at the Colac Secondary College Oval, with the Redbacks posting 9/215 from their 50 overs.

Brandon Goodhall played a key role, dismissing both openers in his 2/35 from seven overs.

Parker Walsh took three late wickets to finish with 3/37 from 10 overs, while Darcy Meade and Matthew Harkin were both tight, both conceding just 24 runs from their 10 over spells.

Matthew Boyle got the run chase off to a typically breezy start, smashing 50 from 34 balls before being the first wicket to fall in the ninth over.

Boyle’s innings featured nine fours and a six.

At 6/134 after 29 overs Cobden still had plenty of work to do.

Goodhall accelerated the Cobden run chase with 40 from 27 balls, the big left-hander clearing the fence three times.

As the wickets continued to fall, Cobden found themselves nine wickets down with eight still required for the win.

Parker Walsh and Darcy Meade slowly edged towards Irrewarra’s total, Walsh levelling the scores with a three in the 45th over, the winning run coming from a wide.

Walsh finished unbeaten on 33 from 54 balls in the win.

Now in fifth place, this Saturday the Knights take on Heytesbury-Princetown at Cobden.

In division two, Cobden recorded a massive 185 run win over Ecklin at Cobden.

Centuries to Ash Rosolin and Jack Hutt propelled Cobden to an imposing 5/308 batting first.

Rosolin was unbeaten on 105 from 97 balls with three fours and a six, with Hutt smashing 120 from 79 balls with 13 fours and two sixes.

The pair added 207 for the fourth wicket in just 23 overs, taking the score from 3/77 to 4/284.

Ecklin made a decent start before collapsing from 1/76 to be all out for 123 in 29 overs.

Joe Hutt led the bowlers with 4/14 from four overs, with Jonty Robertson’s off-spinners netting him 3/15 from four.

This week the division two Knights play Boorcan at Boorcan.

In division three, Cobden scored a 96 run win over Ecklin at Ecklin.

An unbeaten 99 from 127 ball to Stephen Benallack led Cobden to a total of 4/208.

Benallack hit nine fours and a six in his innings.

In reply Ecklin were all out for 112, with Ben Clarke, Michael Benallack and Broly Henderson taking two wickets each.

This Saturday the division three Knights play Pomborneit Gold at Pomborneit.

In the under 16s on Sunday, Cobden had a 73 run win over Bookaar at Cobden.

Sam Mahncke top scored with 44 from 36 balls, with Clem Walsh scoring 40 from 38 and Michael Benallack 35 not out from 67.

Bookaar replied with 9/119 from their 35 overs.

This Sunday Cobden play Pomborneit at Cobden in the final round of home and away matches.

On Monday night the under 13 Knights scored a 37 run win over Heytesbury-Princetown.

Ryan Bailey top scored with 23 retired in Cobden’s 3/116.

The Storm replied with 5/79, Carter Murfett taking three wickets.

This Monday sees Cobden play Camperdown at Camperdown in the final round of under 13 matches.
