Centuries to Uren and Brar

CENTURIES to openers Ned Uren and Karan Brar have led Derrinallum to a massive 230 run win over Rokewood in round eight Grenville Cricket Association action.

Batting first, Derrinallum piled on 3/332 from its 40 overs at the Rokewood Recreation Reserve.

Brar smashed 117 from 98 balls, hitting 19 fours and two sixes in his first century for the Tigers.

Captain Uren carried his bat through the innings, making 127 not out, hitting 10 fours and four sixes in his third senior century for Derrinallum.

“Karan went hard from the start, he was able to find every gap in the boundary,” Uren said.

“He set us up really well.”

Of his own innings, Uren said he played a support role early before accelerating later in the innings.

“I was happy to play a back seat role to Karan, I was only about 40 at the 20 over mark.

“It was good to be able to up the tempo later in the innings and keep the score going.”

On debut for Derrinallum, Riley Fisher hit 36 from 20 balls, with his cousin Nick Fisher, a former Derrinallum star, returning and finishing the innings unbeaten on 23 from 12 balls.

“Riley on debut played a really good cameo.

“Nick hadn’t played any cricket for 10 years until Saturday, but he looked as though he’d played right up until last week.”

On the back of his explosive innings, Uren decided to get Brar to open the bowling alongside Hunter Thompson.

“With his confidence high I thought it was a good idea to give Karan the new ball.

“He certainly made it a great all round game.”

Brar took five of the first six Rokewood wickets, finishing with 5/13 from eight overs as the home team was reduced to 6/46.

Rokewood was eventually dismissed for 102 in the 31st over.

Ben Carr and Nick Fisher took two wickets each, with Thompson taking 1/31 from his eight overs.

“Everyone bowled well, it was a fantastic team performance.”

This week second placed Derrinallum host third placed Carranballac at Derrinallum; both teams having a five win two loss record so far this season.

“We look like having a couple out this week, they’ll be a tough team to beat but we’ll go in with a positive outlook.”

In the under 16s, Derrinallum had a 44 run win over Lismore at Derrinallum.

Batting first, Derrinallum made 5/134 from its 25 overs.

Eddie Gellie top scored with 40 not out from 41 balls, with openers Fletcher Greig and Neave Thompson making 25 and 23 respectively.

Lismore replied with 5/90, Eddie Gellie and Patrick Greig taking two wickets each.

Derrinallum had the bye in the under 12s.

In this week’s junior games, the Derrinallum under 16s play Rokewood at Rokewood on Saturday morning, while on Friday night the under 12 Tigers host Lismore at Derrinallum.
