CFA: maintain your machinery

THE Country Fire Authority (CFA) is reminding farmers to take care when working in paddocks following a grass fire on the Camperdown-Lismore Road last Saturday.

Four CFA units responded to the fire at around 5.37pm, with campers at the nearby Lake Tooliorook and Lismore residents issued a Watch and Act warning.

CFA District 6 assistant chief fire officer Craig Brittain said the warning was put out as a precaution, but the fire was quickly controlled and extinguished.

“It is believed to have been started by machinery in a paddock,” he said.

“It burned around six hectares.

“The head of the fire was quickly brought under control by the responding four appliances and the fire was under control and extinguished shortly after.

“There was no other threat.”

Mr Brittain said it was important for farmers and community members using machinery to take care during hot, dry and windy conditions.

“Make sure all the machinery is being properly maintained and be aware of the risks in which they are operating,” he said.
