A NEW generation of leaders has recently been appointed at Camperdown’s CFA brigade.

The leadership team was appointed as current captain Danny Gordon is due to finish his tenure next year.

The brigade has also welcomed its first female lieutenant Georgie Gretton, who said it was exciting.

“I think the brigade really needs to reflect the community,” she said.

“The more diverse it is, the more individuals bring to the brigade.”

Lieutenant Gretton is joined in the leadership team by first lieutenant Andrew Smith, fifth lieutenant Steven Russell, second lieutenant Jack McKenzie, and third lieutenant and training officer Michael Carman.

Captain Gordon said it was a good change, with a good variety of people.

“I am hoping for inclusiveness, just to all get along and to direct the brigade in the right direction in the oncoming years,” he said.

Secretary, treasurer and Communications officer Bernie Sinnott said it was fantastic to have new faces at the table.

“I’ve been chairman of the brigade for nearly 40 years now, so having some new members come in on the brigade membership team will be great,” he said.

“Some new ideas, and some new young blood.

“We hope we can train and encourage more people to join the brigade and do all the training.

“We’re looking for new members, so that’s what we’re hoping the new leadership team will bring.”

Lieutenant Gretton said it was worth giving the CFA a go.

“You’ll get as much from the CFA as you give,” she said.

Lieutenant Smith also encouraged people to try out the CFA.

“It can be a really exciting and rewarding experience for anyone of any age to come along and be a part of it and give a bit back to the community,” he said.

Lieutenant Russel said the CFA is a good thing to be in.

“Learn a lot of things and make lots of friends,” he said.

Lieutenant McKenzie said the CFA was an exciting and dynamic environment.

“It’s a wonderful experience to be able to give back to the community completely volunteer your time,” he said.

“To dedicate that to your community and to other people is something very special and we’re very privileged to be able to do it”.
