Challenging conditions for Mortlake

HAVING experienced weather conditions ranging from rain and wind through to mild temperatures, Mortlake bowlers were challenged in many ways this past week.

Results from round nine of weekend pennant were as follows:

Mortlake Blue (div. 1) lost to City Red 49-69 (away).

D Grant lost to M Solly 17-24, L Johnson lost to B Sheehan 13-25 and G Draffen lost to K Carlin 19-20.

Mortlake Blue is still in the hunt, dropping to fourth place but only one point behind City Gold and four points ahead of fifth placed Dunkeld Blue.

Mortlake White (div. 2) at home to Port Fairy Blue and Mortlake Gold (div.4) at home to Lawn Tennis Green matches were abandoned due to the weather.

These were the only abandoned matches for the round.

Mortlake White is 10 points out of the four in sixth place but still has a chance of making finals.

Mortlake Gold is in fourth place, four points behind third-placed Timboon Brown and three points ahead of fifth-placed Koroit Green.

Mortlake Gold (div. 4) at home to Koroit Green:

Please note these selections are not quite final yet and are subject to change before game day.

Last Sunday three Mortlake players played in the WDPA singles championships.

In the initial rounds, it was sectional play and whoever won their section progressed to day two.

For the women, Harmony Rasmussen played against Polly Rabl (Dennington) and won that match, only to meet Maureen Drennan (City) in the next round.

Despite giving Maureen a decent run for her money, Harmony's journey came to an end.

For the men, Justin Rasmussen had a bye in his first match but came up against Colin Davey (City) and Justin's journey came to an end there.

Also for the men, Kevin Johnson played Brendan Keane (Timboon) in his first match and won that match.

The next match was against Gavin O'Leary(Dennington) and Kevin only just got over the line 25-24 to progress through to the quarter finals.

Kevin will meet Tom Englezos (Port Fairy) this Sunday, December 17 from 12.30pm at City Memorial BC.

All members are urged to go along and cheer Kevin onto finals glory.

Results from round 10 of midweek pennant were as follows:

Mortlake Purple (div. 3) lost to Lawn Tennis Blue 32-36 (away):

V Smith lost to G Bartlett 14-20, A

van Diemen def B Crispe 18-16.

Mortlake Green (div. 4) lost to Port Fairy Blue 28-45 (away):

L'O'Shannessy lost to N Hedger 13-24, G MacDonald lost to B Watts 15-20.

Midweek pennant will break for Christmas until Tuesday January 16, 2024.

The Tuesday social pennant match against Terang at Terang this week is a mystery as results weren’t available at the time of deadlines.

With Christmas fast approaching, don’t forget to get your tickets in for the Christmas hamper raffle, drawn this Saturday, December 16.
