Champions crowned at Mortlake Bowls
CLUB Fours was the final event on the bowls calendar for the Mortlake Bowls Club.
Eight teams vied for finals glory (with two sections of four teams), with the winners of each section competing in a play-off.
A close race in the first section saw Ian MacDonald, Paul Delaney, Dianne Robertson and Gertie MacDonald take the honours.
In the second section, the only team with three wins was Dave McNicoll, Richard Draffen, Josh Springall and Nigel Boyden.
The final was played over eight ends in perfect conditions.
Ian’s team got off to a great start but Dave’s team clawed back the deficit and levelled the score on the penultimate end.
Congratulations to the 2023-24 Club Fours Champions Dave McNicoll (s), Richard Draffen, Josh Springer and Nigel Boyden.

Every year an award is given to those who have been recognised among their peers to have contributed behind the scenes at the club.
Merv Suhan was a prolific club man at Mortlake during his time and his family wanted to honour that legacy.
The Merv Suhan Best Club Person Award began three years ago.
To date winners have included Noel Smith and Marj Whitson.
This year the award went to Scott Pierce for his work in and around the club.
A few members received gift packs as a thank you from the club.
This included life member Noel Smith for his work running twilight bowls for 15 years; life member Ian MacDonald for his 28 years' keeping the green running well; Scott Pierce for his 10 years' service as secretary and Harmony Rasmussen and immediate past president Justin Rasmussen and family for starting out in twilight bowls.
Harmony and Justin also joined the club’s pennant sides.
While the official season is now over, those interested in the game can still enjoy some time on the green while the weather holds out.
Tuesday social bowls is held weekly and starts at 1pm - just turn up and you will get a game, while meeting friendly faces and having a cuppa afterwards.
The cost to play is just $5 so why not go along and try your hand at one of the most accessible sports in the world?
All abilities welcome.
Tuesday social bowls will be running every week from now until about September.
A reminder that the annual general meeting will be held on Thursday, May 9 from 7.30pm at the clubrooms.
All positions will be vacated (the club is especially looking for a secretary). All welcome.
