Church hall packed for trivia

THE Camperdown Hospital Auxiliary hosted a brand-new fundraiser last Friday, seeing strong support in attendance and donations to the hospital.

The St Paul’s Anglican Church Hall was packed to the brim last Friday for the Camperdown Hospital Auxiliary’s trivia night.

The auxiliary hosted their trivia night, which saw close to 150 people form teams to test their general knowledge in 10 rounds of trivia and miscellaneous games.

Artworks which had been donated back to the auxiliary following their art shows were also on display for sale.

The combination of art sales, entry fees and purchasing answers saw the trivia night raise around $3500.

Funds raised will go towards providing piped medical air to the hospital’s operating theatre.

Medical air is used in inhaled anaesthetic and provides respiratory support for patients undergoing surgery and can help to reduce post-operative nausea.

Camperdown Hospital Auxiliary member Jo Saunders said the auxiliary was thrilled to see the strong support for the trivia night.

“It was very successful and lots of fun,” she said.

“It was great to see so many people there.

“We thank people for their patience in being in such close quarters.

“We’d like to thank Michael Saunders for his role as quizmaster – that was great.

“We sold 13 pieces of art out of 26, which was a really positive part of this as well.”

Each table answered questions on Australian history, famous faces, literature, the natural world, music, television and movies, sport, what state mate, arts and Camperdown.

Prizes were also awarded for messiest or neatest handwriting of the round, correctly guessing a ‘who am I’ between rounds and for an art competition which saw tables create an image of what the Camperdown region meant to them.

“It’s great to think we can continue to support the Camperdown Hospital in any way they need it,” Ms Saunders said.

“It was unfortunate we had to knock some tables back because we were full – we feel disappointed about that, but at the same time so excited it was sold out.

“We want to thank everyone for their attendance, good spirit and attitude.

“We’d like to thank the people who donated prizes for the night – both businesses and individuals.

“It was great to have a new idea supported so well.”

The total was given a boost on the night, with Camperdown Lions Club president Isabel Riordan presenting auxiliary vice president Matt Clark with a cheque for $500 to go towards the project.

An additional boost to the auxiliary was also made recently, with Excuse Me Katie’s donating the $3000 raised from its Shine for Shoni night.

Ms Saunders said she was hoping to see just as much support later in the year when the annual Hospital Auxiliary Art Show returns.

“The annual Hospital Auxiliary Art Show will be on in September, and we’re hoping to have as enthusiastic an attendance for the art show,” she said.

“It’s been ongoing for many years as our main fundraiser, so we encourage everyone to come along.

“The Hospital Auxiliary has been informed of the great benefits for both patients and staff in having piped medical air in our operating theatre.

“We hope that, with the wonderful support shown by the community, South West Health will make piped medical air a definite priority for the Camperdown and District Hospital in the very near future.”
