Clean sweep for senior netballers
WOORNDOO Mortlake’s senior netballers enjoyed a clean sweep against Great Western last weekend, winning all three games.

WOORNDOO Mortlake’s senior netballers enjoyed a clean sweep against Great Western last weekend, winning all three games.
In front of a home crowd, the Tigers enjoyed wins in five of six matches played – with the 15 and under side the only defeat of the day.
According to coach Kate Jubb, the Tigers’ A grade side showed versatility and strength all over the court.
“We were missing our shooter, Sarah Cameron so we had Mia Richie playing in goals with Elise Killen,” Jubb said.
“They are both very young players and this was their first senior game in goals together but I thought they played beautifully."
“They really stepped up and put in 110 per cent; I was really proud of the way they both played.”
Renae Reynolds, in defence, also earned the praise of her coach, as did Brooke Eldridge at wing defence and Kaitlyn Fowler who stepped up from B grade.
“Brooke had a ripper game and Renae is always reliable. She took a lot of intercepts and really played a big role in our win. She read the play well and is one of the more experienced players in our side.”
Currently sitting in sixth position on the ladder, two games below fifth placed Lismore Derrinallum, Jubb said while finals may be out of reach they would still “work hard and see what happens.”
“We’ve been fortunate to have won a few A grade premierships over the years but realistically this year may not be our year,” Jubb said.
“But we have a very young A grade side and they work hard every week which stands us in good stead for the future.”
The Tigers’ B grade, C grade and 17 and under teams all currently sit within the top five of their respective ladders and are looking finals bound.
“We’re excited to potentially have three sides in the finals series considering at the start of the season our numbers were looking quite low.
“We’ve been very lucky to have had several late comers who have blended in nicely to our squads.”
Junior results from the weekend were as follows:
17 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Great Western 41-23;
15 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake lost to Great Western 18-27;
13 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Great Western 27-3.
This Saturday the Tigers will travel to Penshurst to take on the Bombers in what will no doubt be a closely contested round.
