Close games in div three
NOORAT Terang Lions' division three team currently sits third on the Warrnambool District ladder.
Now just over half way through the season, the Lions are gaining confidence and momentum in their first year as an amalgamated side in the Warrnambool district competition.
Round nine last weekend saw the Lions travel to the Harris Street Reserve where they took on the Merrivale Tigers.
The home side won the toss and elected to bat, posting a creditable 8/195 from its 40 overs.
Best of the bowlers for the Lions were Thomas Clissold who finished the day with figures of 2/13 off eight overs, which included four maidens.
Charlie Kenna was also effective with the ball, taking 2/35 from six while wickets also fell for Jonathon McConnell, Andrew Battistello, Toby Harris and Tyler Smith.
In reply, the Lions fell just short, recording 10/170 in their 39th over.
Dom Kenna had a great day out with the bat, smashing 56 from 89 deliveries in an innings that included three boundaries and two sixes.
He was well supported on the scoreboard by Thomas Clissold with 26 runs from 19 deliveries and Tyler Smith who added 24 which included three boundaries.
Noorat Terang will travel to Brauer College this weekend to face West Warrnambool.
Mortlake’s division three side notched up a win over Allansford Panmure last Saturday, hosting the Gators at the Mortlake College oval.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, reaching 9/110 after 39 overs.
Shane Slater was the best of the bowlers for the Cats, taking 4/6 from seven overs while Shorne Bond 2/25 off eight, and captain Jordan Wareham 2/10 off eight, were also strong contributors.
In reply, the Cats surpassed the visitors’ total after 18 overs, finishing the day at 3/114.
Opener Jason Harris had a great day out, contributing 47 from just 26 deliveries in an impressive innings that included five boundaries and two sixes.
He was well supported on the scoreboard by Wareham with 37 and Luke Robertson who finished unbeaten on 11.
The Cats will again play at home this weekend, hosting Brierly-Christ Church.
