Close one for Tigers

ON the heels of a confidence-boosting season opening win over reigning premiers Tatyoon, round two saw Woorndoo Mortlake go down by just three points to Hawkesdale Macarthur.

Playing in front of a home crowd at Woorndoo last Saturday, the Tigers started strong, kicking 3.1 to 1.3 in the opening term before going in to the main break with a handy nine-point lead.

The third term saw the visitors add six majors to the scoreboard while containing the home side to 3.5, which saw them take the lead by six points going into the final quarter.

The Tigers fought back in the last, making good use of the ball and taking advantage of movement in the forward line.

An even fourth term, which saw both sides add four goals to the board, resulted in a three-point win to the Eagles, 15.10.100 to 14.13.97.

Best for the Tigers were Matthew Pemberton, Mac Shaw, Sam Gervasoni, Haydn Templeton, Kane Killen and Jordan Buckley.

Goals went to Pemberton (5), Buckley (4) and one each to James Coghlan West, Brent Fedley, Damien Pemberton and Dougal Sweeney.

In the reserve match, the Tigers notched up their first win of the season, defeating the Eagles by 23 points, 9.14.68 to 6.9.45.

Best for the home side were Tyne Anderson, James Henry, Josh Mahncke and Liam Schuuring.

Goals went to James Henry, Tom Hetherington and Charles Kenny.

The Tigers’ netballers had a great day on the courts, winning five of the six games played.

A grade - Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Hawkesdale Macarthur 47-39. Best players: Mia Richie and Nicole Anderson.

B grade – Hawkesdale Macarthur defeated Woorndoo Mortlake 39-33. Best: Tasha Killen and Samantha Hearne.

C grade – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Hawkesdale Macarthur 24-14. Best: Letitia Howat and Lily Schuuring.

18 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Hawkesdale Macarthur 45-15. Best: Santanea Sciascia-Potae and Taylah Rohan.

15 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Hawkesdale Macarthur 49-3. Best: Indi Wardlaw and Ashlee Killen.

13 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Hawkesdale Macarthur 21-7. Best: Rekiah Martin and Lacey Killen.
