The Demons thrilled a home crowd on Saturday, taking the points over Old Collegians 9.12.66 to 10.4.64.

The home side started strong, kicking 3.1 in the opening term to the visitors’ 1.2 before Old Collegians hit back in the second to go into the main break with a six point lead.

The Demons rallied in the third quarter, making better use of the ball and applying pressure to add 3.6 to the scoreboard while containing Old Collegians to two straight goals.

This gave the Demons a six-point lead heading into the final quarter where they were able to hold on for a two-point victory.

Senior coach Marcus Hickey said he was absolutely thrilled to get the win and was proud of the pressure applied all over the ground.

“We really just got back to basics and played one on one good solid footy,” he said.

“I think the win has really installed a greater sense of self-belief among the team; they now know they can win those close ones and when you look at the ladder, even though we’re currently eighth, just four points separates us from fifth.

“It was great to have Balun Cumming back in the side – he was out last week with back soreness but on Saturday he really was solid in the midfield and all the boys just really lift when he’s out there which was great to see.”

The Demons will face Panmure this weekend in what Hickey believes will be another winnable one.

“Panmure lost to Old Collegians the week prior so they’ll be eager for a win but at the same time we’ll head into the game with self-belief,” he said.

Mitchell Wallace, Rhys Ziegelaar, Balun Cumming, Ben Newey, Lyndon Alsop and Lachlan Rosolin were named in the best for the Demons.

Goals went to Newey, Wallace and Ziegelaar (two each), Martin Angus, Marcus Hickey and Eben White.

In a low-scoring affair earlier in the day, Timboon’s reserves went down by 10 points, 2.8.20 to 4.6.30.

Jake Robbins and Tyler Thorburn kicked a goal each while Rangi Vickers, William Benallack, Toby Hendrix, Steven Crees, Bayley Kelly and Jake Robbins were named in the best.

The Demons’ under 18s are holding on to fifth spot on the ladder following last weekend’s 14-point win, 6.4.40 to 3.8.26.

Best for the side were Warren Te Nana-Rodgers, Smith, Will Moorhouse, Tayne Berry, Jack Matthews and Lachlan McLennan.

Smith kicked two goals for the day while Caius Cuthell, Lachlan McLennan, Te Nana-Rodgers and Rileigh Williams kicked one each.

Timboon’s B grade side currently sits fifth following last weekend’s win, while the 15 and unders sit fourth and the club’s 13 and under side remains on top of the ladder with just one loss to date.
