Second over the line (close behind) was a recently new rider to the group, Taj, on his new road bike recording a PB of 12.32.

Third over the line was Henry recording his time of 12.41.

All place getters started in the third bunch and worked their way to the front of the race.

Other times were Rieley 11.18, Elanor with a PB of 19.21, the ever-reliable Ava with her time of 11.07, Bentley 11.47, Archie 14.38 and Finny 14.45.

Nathaniel finished with a time of 11.00 from the scratch position.

Next week’s skills session will cover looking behind and learning the safe way to remove a drink bottle from the bike while riding.

A big shout out to all our club members, parents and friends for stepping up to help each week.

The club has formed a leadership group of young riders -last year’s juniors who are no longer eligible to ride in the junior races due to age restrictions.

The leadership group mentors younger juniors riding in the junior race.

The leadership team, along with other senior riders and family members, help keep young riders safe on the roads while being positive role models.

Zane, Thea, Oliver and Finn continue their cycling education with the club by riding with the senior riders in the senior race using the junior race as their warm-up lap.

Senior riders mentor the leadership group with encouragement and hints along the Chocolyn race circuit.

The club welcomes any rider interested in joining the Thursday night fun to contact 0407 335 546 for more information.

There was a moderate south-westerly wind at last week’s senior race at the Camperdown Cycling Club, with a headwind on the way back from Chocolyn.

New rider Shannon Bell rode off limit with Zane Vogels for his first race, with Matt Gestrain and Tanya Mckenzie chasing two and a half minutes behind.

Finn Baxter started a minute behind them, riding solo with Todd Baxter and Oliver Clark another two and a half minutes back.

Matt and Tanya were caught by Finn at the Chocolyn bridge and worked together in an attempt to catch limit.

This bunch was caught by Oliver and Todd shortly after the abs corner.

With Finn dropping off the back at Pasque’s corner and a large gap to the limit riders, Todd brought up the pace and created a gap from the bunch with Oliver chasing.

However, Matt G managed to bridge the gap and get ahead at the finish line to claim third place.

Oliver came fifth, with Todd claiming fourth place and fastest time.

Shannon Bell had finished in second, with the towering Zane Vogels crossing the line in first place in a massive stroke of strength.
